아이가 아끼는 인형 속을 들여다봤더니 더러운 솜이 한가득 이더라, 아이들이 좋아하는 사탕이 몸에 나쁜 성분으로 만들어졌다더라…. 요새 하루가 멀다고 들리는 소식들이다. 하르야하르미인형카페에서는 아이에게 좋은 것만 주고 싶은 부모의 맘으로 준비한 유기농천, 깨끗한 솜을 사용해 귀여운 나만의 인형을 만들 수 있다.
이곳에는 토끼, 곰과 같은 동물 인형, 독일식 인형인 발도르프 인형, 제주형 인형 등 30가지 이상의 인형과 아기용품 만들기까지 매우 다양한 체험이 마련되어 있다. 특히 제주형 인형 중 하르야와 하르미는 카페 주인장이 직접 디자인해 만든 깜찍한 돌하르방 인형으로 제주 여행 기념품으로 딱!이다. 몇 해 전, 경기도 안산에 살고 있던 주인장은 제주도로 여행을 왔는데 당시 7살이던 딸이 돌로 만든 돌하르방이 갖고 싶다고 졸랐다고 한다. 돌로 만들어 무거우니 돌아가는 날 사자고 딸을 잘 타이르곤 그만 약속을 잊고 경기도 안산으로 돌아갔다고 한다. 속상했던 딸이 “그럼 엄마가 인형으로 만들어줘!”라고 했고 당시 12년 동안 인형 만들기 강사로 일했던 주인장이 딸의 말을 흔쾌히 받아들여 탄생한 것이 하르야와 하르미이다. 딸에게 선물하기 위해 만들어서인지 하르야와 하르미는 단순한 모양이지만 딸을 사랑하는 엄마의 따스한 마음이 느껴진다. 하르야와 하르미 덕분에 커다랗고 근엄한 얼굴이라 다소 무섭게 느껴졌던 돌하르방이 아이들에게도 친근하게 다가갈 수 있게 되었다.

인형 만들기 체험의 첫 단계는 만들고 싶은 인형 고르기. 모든 인형은 유기농 인증을 받은 천과 천연염색 실, 깨끗하게 정제한 솜을 사용해 인형을 물고 빨면서 노는 아이들에게도 안심하고 줄 수 있다. 이 외에도 가위와 펜 등 필요한 재료가 모두 준비되면 본격적으로 인형 만들기 체험이 시작이다. 보들보들한 천 옆으로 난 작은 구멍으로 솜을 뭉치지 않게 꾹꾹 눌러가며 골고루 담고 잘 꿰매주면 이목구비는 없지만 오동통 제법 사랑스러운 인형의 모습을 갖춘다. 이제 인형의 표정을 만들어 줄 차례. 원하는 대로 눈, 코, 입에 장식까지 인형에 그리고 바느질로 수를 놓으면 된다. 언뜻 어렵게 느껴질지도 모르지만 선생님이 내내 함께하며 차근차근 알려주니 어린아이들도 쉽게 할 수 있다. 바느질이 끝나면 자투리 천으로 스카프나 리본을 만들어 주거나 발그레한 볼을 색칠해주면 개성 넘치는 나만의 인형이 완성된다. 어떤 인형을 만드느냐에 따라 다르지만 보통 체험시간은 30분에서 2시간 정도 소요된다.
